Mercantile Supply — merchant guide

Find your way

The "Learn more" links in the theme editor open these pages.

Mercantile Supply is a Shopify theme for catalogs that serve repeat buyers. The Mercantile Supply style suits workshop supplies, Hardware gives dense product lists, and Home gives more room to product photography. You can change styles in the theme editor and then adjust colors, type, sections, and menus for your store.

Install and first setup

  1. Add the theme ZIP to Online Store → Themes. Preview it before publishing.
  2. In Customize, choose a style, add your logo, select menus, and replace the example headings and images on the home page. Images from demo stores do not transfer with the theme.
  3. Create your products and collections. Choose the collections in the home page's category and featured collection sections.
  4. Review the product, collection, cart, and mobile views. Make a test order.
  5. If you sell to companies, finish the B2B setup below before turning on trade-only presentation.

Pages and navigation

Create a page in Online Store → Pages, then choose the matching theme template in the page editor. Add the page to your menus after saving it.

Page Suggested handle Theme template
Quick order quick-order page.quick-order
Request a quote request-quote page.request-quote
Trade application reseller-application page.reseller-application
Compare products compare page.compare
Find a branch find-a-branch page.find-a-branch
Contact contact page.contact
Support support page.support
Help centre pages any page.help
Help centre home any page.help-index

Quick order accepts product codes, pasted lines, or a CSV. Request a quote and trade application use Shopify forms. Review their notification destinations and test each form before inviting buyers to use them. If you do not offer a feature, remove its link from your menus.

Logo

Upload one logo in Customize → Header → Logo. It shows up to 40px high; 28–32px suits a wide wordmark, up to 40px a square or stacked mark. Logo width sets the width and the height follows the file's shape. Use an SVG if you can; otherwise a PNG with a transparent background, trimmed with no empty margin, at least three times the size it is shown (about 120px tall). On phones the logo is at most 120px wide.

With Transparent on home page and light text, the header sits dark over the home hero and your logo turns white there automatically. If your logo has colours that should stay, upload a light version in Light logo over the hero; it only appears in that case.

Compare products

Turn on Show compare on product cards in the collection settings; buyers tick up to four products and open the compare page from the tray. The compare section can also be added to any page, where it reads as a section with its own heading. Rows to compare chooses what the table shows: vendor, price, stock, SKU, minimum order, case size and specifications (the product's specification metafields).

Help centre

Build a menu in Online Store → Navigation, two levels deep: a top-level item with sub-items becomes a group (use # as its link for a plain heading), and its sub-items are the pages. Assign the page.help template to each of those pages, then choose the menu once in Customize → Pages → Help (Help menu). Every help page shows the menu down the left, highlights the page being read, and links to the previous and next pages in the menu's order. On phones the menu folds into an "In this section" row above the page.

A group can also link to a page of its own instead of #. That page lists the group's pages as cards (title and the start of the text) under its own words; Article list in the same section settings turns this off. For a help centre front page, assign page.help-index to it: it lists every group and its pages.

Blog and articles

The blog template's settings choose a grid or a list, two or three columns, posts per page, whether the newest post runs full width, and a row of topics built from your article tags. The blog and article templates can both show a menu down the left, the same as the help centre.

Articles are set for reading: about 70 to 75 characters a line, with images allowed wider than the text. What you write in the article editor becomes the highlights, with nothing extra to learn:

Below the article: its tags, share links, the previous and next posts, and up to three related posts (sharing the article's first tag). Each can be turned off in the article template's settings. To add a statement, image cards or a call to action after every article, add a Content builder, Bento grid or Call to action section to the article template in Customize.

Trade accounts and prices

The theme displays Shopify's product prices. It does not create company accounts, catalogs, quantity rules, or discounts. To use B2B, configure companies, company locations, buyers, and catalogs in Shopify admin. Set minimums, increments, and volume prices on the relevant products or variants. Use Shopify's new customer accounts for B2B sign-in.

In Theme settings → B2B · Prices → Who sees prices, choose Everyone or Trade buyers only (guests then see a sign-in prompt). All three styles initially show retail prices so a new store can sell before B2B is configured. Sign in as a company buyer and verify that Shopify returns the correct contextual price before choosing the wholesale-only display setting.

Hiding a price in the theme does not secure a product or block checkout. Use Shopify's catalog and account controls to restrict what buyers can purchase.

Product details and documents

The product page can show Shopify quantity rules, volume pricing, stock status, specifications, and downloadable files. Configure the relevant settings in Theme settings → B2B · Ordering and stock and B2B · Product page.

For downloads, add a product metafield named b2b.documents with type File or List of files in Settings → Custom data → Products. Add files to each product. The optional b2b.datasheet URL adds one external download. The optional variant integer b2b.units_per_case supports per-unit display when Shopify's native unit price is unavailable. Check every file and specification against the product before publishing it.

Sections and styles

In Customize, add, reorder, hide, or remove sections to compose pages. Each section has a color scheme selector. Theme settings → Colors sets the shared schemes; Typography and Layout set fonts, widths, and spacing. The Hardware style uses denser product grids and a cart page. Home uses larger product cards and a cart drawer. The Mercantile Supply style has a balanced catalog layout. Check your home page and product cards after switching styles: style changes can overwrite presentational settings.

The theme has app block and Custom Liquid slots in common page sections. An app's own behavior and setup belong to its developer. Duplicate the theme before editing code; custom code may need to be reapplied after a theme update.

FAQ

Why does a company buyer see retail prices? Check that the buyer is signed in, belongs to a company location, and that Shopify has assigned a catalog and price to that context. The theme cannot calculate a company discount itself.

Why are some quantity choices unavailable? Check Shopify's minimum, increment, maximum, inventory, and selling policy on the selected variant. The cart and product form follow those rules.

Why are my demo images missing after installation? Shopify does not transfer demo store imagery with the theme. Upload images to your own products and select images in the relevant sections.

Why is a quick-order or quote page blank or missing? Create the page, select its matching template, and add the page to a menu. Then test the form or order flow with a sample product.

Does the theme calculate taxes or payment terms? No. Shopify controls tax, checkout, payments, and B2B terms. Review the resulting checkout for your market.

Can I use it for a public store and trade buyers together? Yes. Keep retail prices visible to guests and configure Shopify B2B catalogs for company buyers.

Support and updates

Komorebi supports questions about theme settings, setup, and defects in the theme. Contact carlos@carlospx.com or use the public support form once it is available. Include your store URL, theme version, affected page URL, steps to reproduce, and a screenshot. Shopify handles checkout and account platform issues. Third-party app developers handle their app's behavior. Custom code and custom design work are separate services.

Review the version's release notes before updating. Duplicate your live theme, install the new version as an unpublished copy, test your menus, pages, forms, apps, and cart, then publish when satisfied.
