The theme editor, in five minutes
If you have never used Shopify: the theme editor is where you change how your store looks, without code. Open it from Online Store › Themes › Customize.
The three parts of the screen
- Left: the page you are editing, as a list of sections (bands of the page, top to bottom) and the blocks inside them (a slide, a card, a question). The paintbrush icon opens Theme settings, which apply to the whole store.
- Middle: a live preview. Click anything to select its section.
- Top: the page picker (Home page, Products, Collections …) and Save.
Add, move and hide
- Add section at the bottom of the list. Each section page in these docs says what it is for.
- Drag a section or block to move it. The eye icon hides it without deleting it.
- Select a section to see its settings on the right.
How this theme's settings behave
- Density first. Most sections start with Density (space, columns and image shape) and Text size. Leave them on "Follow theme" and "Default" to match the rest of the store; the store-wide Density is in Theme settings › Layout.
- Settings appear when they matter. A button's link appears once the button has a label; the carousel's timing appears once there is a carousel. If you are looking for a setting, check that the one above it is filled in or switched on. Each section's page has a diagram of which settings reveal which.
- "Learn more" links open the page here that explains the Shopify admin side.
